February 23rd The chef’s specialty: a class on how to pair wine and food
It seems so natural to think about wine and food at the same time, but what about the perfect pairing? Is it true that no red goes with fish (it’s not!)? Why no whites on steak? Come work in the pairing lab and find out why and how we create magic matches.
March 2nd Coast and Mountains
Italy’s geography is varied and very interesting. Especially because we make wine by the beach and on mountains and they are very different. Let’s travel a little without leaving the table.
March 9th Lovely Cabernet, Magic Sangiovese.
Always great to place those two giants one in front of another and see what happens. Are you ready for the clash of wine titans?
March 16th Vintages, Winemakers and Places: terroir explained
Let’s unfold the meaning of the French word terroir: concept of place, vintage and traditional rules mark a precise style of winemaking.
Sommelier Andrea Scuto curates our Award-winning wine program. Andrea has a litany of certifications from a variety of different organizations including the Wine and Spirits Education Trust and the Court of Master Sommeliers. His approach to wine is strictly based on the human footprint that the wine brings naturally with it: behind every bottle there are people, places, and stories. All of these combine together with hard work and patience to produce an incredible nectar that tests the limits of sensory experience. Wine at Amici is meant to be shared with friends and family coming together to have the collective experience of heaven in a glass. Andrea is always happy to provide suggestions to suit every kind of style – he is also always happy to just stop by your table to have a chat! Perhaps you will find that he just returned from a trip to one of the world’s foremost wine regions – he usually brings back the highest quality stock and a few great stories as well!
Our wine program is based on a balance between Italian and Californian wineries.
All of our wines are designed to enhance the dining experience – offering wine that pairs perfectly with your authentic Italian dish to provide a new dimension of flavor to an already fantastic meal! Our selection offers an array of wines to taste across the entire country of Italy or to give a selection of the local wines we know and love here in California.
We organize our wine list by style rather than by region – that way even the non-expert taster can jump into the vast sea of Italian wines by matching the style they enjoy with the new and exciting wines we offer. The list has been modified over time to incorporate new and exciting wines while keeping the classics and reliable standbys – all offered at a multitude of price ranges, but all with a consistently excellent level of quality. We also have a selection of half-bottles for those who want a great wine but are worried about finishing an entire bottle.
All of our wine is stored in our beautiful custom built wine cellar, visible through much of the restaurant. In there, the wine is kept at a constant temperature that maintains ideal conditions 365 days a year.
The list is composed of 341 labels and changes every few months. We are always seeking our new and fantastic wines to add and our sommelier actively seeks out the highest quality wines to bolster the list.
What truly shines bright though is our wine-by-the-glass program. It’s structured around a solid selection of Italian and Californian wine designed to offer a variety of styles. Every dish on the menu pairs perfectly with at least a few of our wines by the glass. We house our bottles in temperature controlled Enomatic vacuum pouring machines in order to preserve the freshness of the wine and to guarantee a perfect pour every time!
The program is structured around few wines that never change and other Italian wines that seasonally are updated. This structure allows our guests to always find a great quality wine they can rely on but at the same time give them the opportunity to taste something new every season. The Italian selection ranges from classic appellations to modern style wines. The staff has bi-monthly training sessions so that they can offer a knowledgeable advice to the guest who is unsure what to select. Tasting is also highly encouraged – especially for the guest who is trying to choose between a few different wines! All of our wine is served in top-quality glassware that is sparkling clean so that you get the best quality in every pour.
